Playing basketball at the recreational level is relatively inexpensive as compared to other sports. BCB runs an annual spring league in the greater Sydney area every April for 8 weeks, allowing kids to improve their skills and to have fun. There is a single registration fee that includes player insurance and a jersey for each player to keep. Travel is minimal with usually one day of games being played at a facility outside of the greater Sydney area. Teams assembled outside of greater Sydney may travel more throughout the duration of the spring league.
When a player is selected to play on a rep team, the cost increases. Once again, when compared to other sports, the registration fee for a rep team is low. However, players represent Cape Breton and travel off island to compete with teams from around the Province. The cost of travel can be as expensive and families should therefore evaluate the cost of a season. Fund raising options are available for all rep teams. Additional information can be obtained in our BCB Parents Guide.
