Basketball Cape Breton (BCB) was founded in 2012 with the goal of growing the game of basketball on the island. Since its inception, the organization has continued to grow, attracting players, coaches and supporters from all over the province.

BCB runs programs for girls, boys and young adults in various divisions. It assembles teams and programs for Jr. Mini, Mini, Bantam, Midget and Juvenile age categories. Programs run year round with rep basketball running in the winter season from late September to April. As well, it runs a summer rep program from May to July. Its annual spring league is the recreational program that begins in April and runs to June. It conducts various day clinics throughout Cape Breton and puts on training camps for male and female athletes in August.

The organization is governed by a Board of Directors that is dedicated to growing the sport by implementing standards for training coaches and developing players for both recreational and competitive basketball.
